(AUSTIN, Texas) — The Texas Longhorns introduced former assistant Karen Aston as their new women’s head basketball coach Tuesday. She will be taking over for Gail Goestenkors, who resigned in March after failing to lead them out of the first round of the NCAA tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
The 47-year-old Aston coached at North Texas the past two seasons; before that she was an assistant with the Longhorns from 1998-2006.
“A 20-win season is obviously a goal, but championships define success,” Aston said. “In my opinion, there are smaller successes that lead into the bigger ones.”
Aston’s deal is for five years. Financial details have not been disclosed.
