(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — The Carolina Panthers signed free agent safety Reggie Smith Wednesday. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The 25-year-old Smith was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2008 NFL draft out of Oklahoma. In his four seasons with the Niners, he has 64 tackles and two interceptions.
“Reggie has been on our radar since the beginning of free agency and is a player we think can come in and compete at safety,” Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said.
Smith brings versatility to the Panthers, having played on special teams throughout his career.
