He ripped off four consecutive birdies on the front nine, finishing with seven birdies for the round.

Four-time Masters champion Tiger Woods finished the day at even-par 72 with three birdies and three bogeys.

“I hit some of the worst golf shots I ever hit today,” Woods told ESPN. “It’s alright. I just hung in there, grinding my way around the golf course and stayed very patient;  stayed in the moment and fortunately that’s about as good as I got there.”

Three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson finished the round at two-over 74.
