Isner Loses Marathon Match At The French Open

Clive Brunskill/Getty Images(PARIS) -- It was another marathon Grand Slam match for John Isner Thursday. Isner lost to Paul-Henri Mathieu of France in the second round of the French Open, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 18-16. The match lasted five hours and 41 minutes, with the fifth set taking two hours and 28 minutes to play.

It’s the second-longest match time-wise in French Open history.

“I never felt comfortable,” Isner said. "It’s been like that since I’ve been in Europe, really. I don’t know what it was. I just didn’t play the right way.”

Isner was involved in the longest match in tennis history in 2010 when he defeated Nicolas Mahut at Wimbledon, 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 70-68.
