(MIAMI) — An emotional LeBron James stepped up to the podium to receive his third Most Valuable Player trophy on Saturday.
James has now won the last three out of four MVP crowns and stepped into elite company becoming just the eighth player in NBA history to win the MVP award three times. He joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Moses Malone among the players who have as many MVP trophies.
“This is my ninth year in the NBA, less than ten years ago, I had dreams of being in the NBA, I had dreams of putting on an NBA uniform,” said James. “I never dreamed about being an NBA most valuable player.”
James stressed the importance of his Heat team who joined him on stage during his speech.
“Even though my name is on this individual award, it’s not just my award,” said James. “The reason I am up here today is because of those guys.”
James received 85 of a possible 121 first-place votes.
