"The Vampire Diaries" Leads Nominees for Teen Choice Awards

George Doyle/Stockbyte/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) -- The CW series The Vampire Diaries is the leading nominee -- so far -- for the 2012 Teen Choice Awards.  Its stars Kat Graham, Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and  Paul Wesley all received individual nods, and the show is also a contender for best fantasy/sci-fi TV series.

American Idol earned five nominations, the same total as pop star Justin Bieber.

Among the movies up for a surfboard award are Marvel's The Avengers, The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1 and Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol.

Fans can now vote on TeenChoiceAwards.com for their favorites in the categories that have been announced.  Additional nominees will be revealed in the near future.

The Teen Choice Awards will air on Fox on July 22.
