Mike McGinnis/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The Baltimore Orioles scored three-runs in the final two innings but it wasn’t enough as the New York Mets (38-32) edged the O’s (39-30) 4-3, giving the Mets their fifth series sweep of the season.

Mets pitcher Dillon Gee pitched into the eighth inning before allowing a run. He ended up pitching 7 1/3 innings, allowing two-runs, while walking two and striking out a career-high nine. He extended the Mets’ scoreless innings streak to 29 before allowing a two-run home run to Orioles third baseman Wilson Betemit. The streak is the second longest single season scoreless streak over the last 20 years.

“It feels like our pitching is contagious,” Mets third baseman David Wright said to SNY. “When we get Dickey and Johan (Santana) throwing the ball well it seems that kind of trickles down, and everybody else wants to go out there and compete and do the same thing. Dillon was fantastic tonight.”

The Mets will try to start another streak Friday when they welcome the New York Yankees to Citi Field.
