(CHICAGO) –The Boston Red Sox placed right-handed pitcher Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, because of inflammation in his right shoulder.
“He’s got some inflammation that we’re going to calm down and take the time, whatever time it takes to do it,” Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. “We thought in between starts was enough. He could have gotten an extra day or two, I guess.”
In 12 starts this season, Beckett is 4-7 with 4.14 ERA. He has 56 strikeouts in 78 1/3 innings of work.
To fill Beckett’s roster spot, the Red Sox recalled reliever Clayton Mortensen from Triple-A Pawtucket.
