Tiger Woods In Contention After First Round At U.S. Open
Published at(SAN FRANCISCO) — Tiger Woods in search of his 15th Major championship shot an opening round 1-under 69 at the U.S. Open Thursday. He trails first round leader Michael Thompson by three shots.
“Very pleased,” Woods said about his performance. “This is the way that I know I can hit the ball and the way I have been hitting the golf ball. I was able to put it together in a major championship. Now we got three more days and I am going to need it the next three days, because this golf course is only going to get faster.”
Phil Mickelson finished the round with a 6-over 76, while Rory McIlroy shot an 8-over 78.
