(DENVER) — The Denver Nuggets have used their amnesty provision to waive center Chris “Birdman” Andersen. His remaining two-year, $9 million contract won’t count against the salary cap or the luxury tax.
In 32 games with Denver last season, Andersen averaged 5.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.44 blocked shots.
The 34-year-old Andersen originally joined Denver as an undrafted free agent in 2001. He left in 2004 to play with the New Orleans Hornets. The NBA suspended him for the entire 2006-07 season due to numerous violations of the league’s drug policy.
