Red Sox Place Ortiz on DL

Elsa/Getty Images(BOSTON) -- The Boston Red Sox placed designated hitter David Ortiz on the 15 day disabled list Wednesday with a right Achilles strain.

Ortiz was injured when rounding the bases after teammate Adrian Gonzalez hit a home run in Boston's 5-1 win over the Chicago White Sox Monday.

The 36-year-old slugger will be eligible to come off the DL August 1. He is currently hitting .316 with 23 home runs, 58 RBIs and a .414 on-base percentage.

Ortiz becomes the twenty-second Red Sox to head to the DL this season.
