(WATKINS GLEN, N.Y) — Carl Edwards won the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Watkins Glen International on Saturday, beating out Brad Keselowski for the victory. It was Edward’s first Nationwide win of the year.
“This is huge for us,” Edwards said. “This win means a lot.”
Austin Dillon prompted the second stoppage of the race on the 80th lap when his front right tire blew out, and Edwards beat Keselowski to the finish on the restart.
It was Edward’s 38th career victory, which moves him into sole possession of third place all time.
Sam Hornish Jr. took third in the 82-lap race, while points leader Elliott Sadler finished 12th. Kyle Busch threatened, but ended up in sixth.
Danica Patrick made her first start at Watkins Glen but did not get to finish, as she was wiped out of the race on the first turn by Bryan Truex.
