(NEW YORK) — The New York Mets acquired catcher Kelly Shoppach from the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday for a player to be name later.
The Mets put in a waiver claim for the 32-year-old Shoppach, enabling the two clubs to work out a deal after the non-waiver trade deadline.
In 48 games with the Red Sox this season, the eight-year MLB veteran batted .250 with five home runs and 17 RBIs.
Shoppach hit a career-high 21 homers in 2008 while a member of the Cleveland Indians.
