McIlroy Wins Deutsche Bank Championship
Published at(NORTON, Mass.) – Rory McIlroy overcame a deficit, then hung on for the victory.
McIlroy won the Deutsche Bank Championship on Monday after shooting a 4-under 67 to edge Louis Oosthuizen by one stroke for his third PGA Tour victory of the year.
The Irish 23-year-old had a three-stroke lead with six holes to play, and nearly saw it all slip away.
On the 18th hole, Oosthuizen could have forced a playoff with a birdie putt, but missed the hole to the right to give McIlroy the win.
“I had a couple of wobbles coming in, but I obviously did enough and I’m very excited to get a victory,” McIlroy said. He moved into the No.1 position in the Fed Ex Cup standings.
Tiger Woods finished in third after shooting a 66 for the final round. He surpassed $100 million in PGA Tour earnings, becoming the only player ever to do so.
