“The middle class is carrying a heavy load in America,” the narrator says.  “But Mitt Romney doesn’t see it.”

The ad cites a recent Tax Policy Center analysis of Romney’s tax plan to claim that he “hits the middle class harder and gives millionaires an even bigger break.”

The Romney campaign has disputed the analysis, while Romney himself pledged during his convention speech last week that “I will not raise taxes on the middle class.”

The Obama ad’s negative tone is noteworthy given all of the talk from the president’s campaign aides about focusing this week on a positive vision and “better path forward.”  Those aren’t touched upon here.

The 30-second ad — titled “Heavy Load” — began airing Monday in seven battleground states: Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Virginia and Florida.  It isn’t airing in the DNC host state of North Carolina; Pennsylvania, which Democrats increasingly see as in their column; or Wisconsin, which polls show has become a new toss-up state.
