After being in the spotlight all week, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton drove his team down the field late in the fourth, which set up a Justin Medlock 45-yard field goal to give Carolina a 22-20 lead with 2:27 left.  Bears quarterback Jay Cutler answered with a 55-yard drive, which set up the game winning field goal by Gould.

“We started off rough but we kept fighting,” said Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall.  “That’s the great thing about this team.”

Newton finished 20 of 39 for 314 yards and threw two interceptions.

“Had plenty of times where we could of scored touchdowns, missed throws, opportunities in the run game,” said Newton after the loss.  “Here we are stuck in the same situation.”
