(SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) – Officials from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints say the number of applicants applying for missionary service is at an all-time high. More than 8,000 would-be missionaries have begun the application process in the past two weeks — a five-fold increase from the previous average. Authorities lowered the minimum age of service to 18 and 19 for men and women respectively. A spokesman said over half of those applying have been women.
