Meanwhile, a roadside bomb exploded on a vehicle in the western province of Farah, killing 17 civilians and injuring 9. Authorities report that women and children are among the casualties and those wounded.

A provincial government spokesman has already stated that blame is being put on the Taliban for planting the roadside bomb. The ISAF has already taken action to condemn the attack.

“The insurgents have again killed innocent Afghans, including women and children,” said Brig. Gen. John Madower, the deputy ISAF spokesperson. “The insurgents’ claim to avoid killing civilians again rings hollow as they continue their ruthless IED campaign.”

According to ISAF reports, insurgent attacks are the root cause of the most war-related Afghan civilian deaths and injuries. There have been more than 2,800 this year. Taliban IEDs caused a significant amount of these casualties.
