Barcelona’s Messi Scores 86th Goal, Breaks Record
Published at(BARCELONA, Spain) — Barcelona striker Lionel Messi now holds the single-year goal-scoring record.
The 25-year-old Argentinian scored his 85th and 86th goals of 2012 Sunday in Barcelona’s game versus Real Betis, breaking German forward Gerd Muller’s 40-year-old record for most goals scored in a year.
Messi scored the record breaker in the 25th minute when he weaved his way through a crowd of Betis defenders, before using his left foot to put the ball in the back of the net.
Messi scored 74 goals as a member of Barcelona and 12 with the Argentinian National Team.
