Alabama Rolls To National Championship
Published at(MIAMI) — The Crimson Tide made it two straight national championships – and made it look easy.
Alabama crushed Notre Dame 42-14 to win the Discover BCS National Championship at SunLife Stadium on Monday night.
In a matchup between two of college football’s most storied programs, it seemed a mismatch from the start.
Alabama (13-1) started the scoring with a 20-yard rushing touchdown from Eddie Lacy, and tacked on another score with an A.J. McCarron touchdown pass to cap a long drive to make it 14-0 after the first quarter.
From there, the defense would take over and limited Notre Dame to 302 total yards.
“We’ve had a lot of really great football players who’ve worked really hard,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said. “Because we’ve had a great team, we’ve been able to have a significant amount of success.”
Notre Dame (12-1) did not get on the scoreboard until late in the third quarter, when quarterback Everett Golson rushed in for a 2-yard touchdown to make it 35-7.
Alabama has won the championship in three of the last four years.
