(NEW YORK) — The New York Jets potentially have a long way to go if they want to be among the AFC’s elite teams, but they’re on their way as the team has hired John Idzik as their new general manager.
Idzik was most recently with the Seattle Seahawks and is seen as a rising star among NFL executives. The Jets hired Idzik because they’re confident in his ability to be a leader in almost every aspect of the organization. ESPN is reporting that Idzik will have final say on all personnel matters.
“I am honored and extremely excited to be joining the New York Jets,” Idzik said. “I am eager to get started building on the foundation that is already in place.”
The Jets were just 6-10 last season and failed to make the playoffs for the second straight season.
While the team was hoping to hire a GM with experience in scouting and personnel, Idzik’s speciality is salary-cap management and contract negotiations.
