(IDAHO FALLS, ID) — A new Craigslist scam is targeting eastern Idaho. An Idaho Falls woman was trying to sell five textbooks on Craigslist when she was contacted by a potential buyer. The buyer, who went by the alias Joel Harris, sent her $1,800 check, though the textbooks were only $200. The buyer then gave her specific instructions to return the excess funds through Western Union. Officials say the bizarre request usually involves a bad check, which may leave the seller with a hefty bank fee when the check bounces. Authorities recommend contacting police if transactions appear suspicious. The Better Business Bureau of Idaho also reminds everyone that you should NEVER “wire” money to anyone that you do NOT know. Be safe with your money.
