Report: Soriano Agrees to Deal with Washington Nationals
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Free agent reliever Rafael Soriano has agreed to a two-year contract with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday worth $28 million, according to ESPN. The deal also includes a third-year at $14 million, which kicks in if the right-hander is able to finish a combined 120 games over his two-year deal.
The 33-year-old Soriano spent the previous two seasons with the New York Yankees. Filling in for injured closer Mariano Rivera last year, Soriano finished with 42 saves and a 2.26 ERA in 69 games.
Soriano opted out of the final year of his three-year deal with the Yankees in October, choosing to take a $1.5 million buyout instead of taking the mound for $14 million.
