(NEW YORK) — New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum and impingement in his left hip socket on Wednesday. He’s expected to return to the diamond after the All-Star break.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. The Yankees released a statement saying the surgery, “went as planned and without complication.”
In 122 games last season, the 14-time All-Star batted .272 with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs.
The Yankees signed free agent third baseman Kevin Youkilis to fill in for A-Rod while he is on the mend.
