(LOS ANGELES) — The 55th Annual Grammy Awards delivered the music ceremony’s second-largest television audience since its 1993 broadcast.
According to preliminary ratings from Nielsen, the CBS telecast notched 28.37 million viewers on Sunday night.
Last year, just under 40 million tuned in for the 2012 Grammys ceremony, which featured a special tribute to Whitney Houston, who died the day before.
Sunday’s telecast also set a new social TV record for an award show, with more than 18.7 million social media comments. That number was second only to the social media figure for the 2013 Super Bowl.
