(OTTAWA) — Ottawa defenseman Erik Karlsson underwent surgery on Thursday to repair his left Achilles tendon. Senators general manager Bryan Murray says the reigning Norris Trophy winner will be sidelined 3-4 months and that his season is “effectively over.”
The 22-year-old Karlsson suffered the injury in Wednesday night’s game against Pittsburgh, when Penguins forward Matt Cooke’s skate cut his tendon 70 percent as the two were tangled along the boards.
Karlsson has six goals and four assists in 14 games this season.
