(LAYTON, UT)  —  A Layton, Utah man is making headlines after he was arrested for shooting at burglars who were attempting to flee his home. 64-year-old Clare Niederhauser fired two shots at a burglar who tried to run away before police arrived. Authorities say Niederhauser crossed the line by firing at the burglar after he dropped his crowbar, thus being unable to defend himself. Niederhauser faces up to a year in jail and $5,000 in fines. His attorney contends that the arrest sets a precedent that homeowners can’t protect themselves or their families in a home invasion.
