Boise Pastor Given 8 Years in Iranian Prison
(WASHINGTON, DC) – The U.S. State Department is working with Iranian diplomats to secure the release of a Christian pastor from Boise. Saeed Abedini, an American citizen of Iranian birth, was sentenced to eight years in prison for allegedly organizing underground Christian gatherings. The charge typically warrants a death penalty in Iran, where fundamentalist Islamic clerics rule the country’s judicial system. Abedini’s wife, Naghmeh, says she is worried about her husband’s safety. Secretary of State John Kerry says he’s deeply troubled by the lack of due process in Abedini’s case.
