No. 7 Kansas Wins The Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship
Published at(Kansas City, MO) — Jeff Withey scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead No. 7 Kansas to a 70-54 win over No. 11 Kansas State in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Perry Ellis added 12 points as Kansas won the Big 12 tournament for the ninth time.
The Jayhawks (29-5), took a 24-16 lead at halftime and never looked back. They have defeated Kansas State all three times they played them this season.
“I think how this season played out this year, I think it means a lot,” Kansas guard Travis Releford said. “And our fans, they have a lot of bragging rights now that this game is over.”
Rodney McGruder led Kansas State (27-7), with 18 points. The Wildcats have not won a conference tournament in more than 30 years.
