(SAN DIEGO) — The San Diego Chargers released left tackle Jared Gaither on Wednesday, one year after signing him to a four-year contract worth $24.5 million. The move will cost the Bolts $6 million against the salary cap.
The Chargers claimed Gaither off of waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2011 season, where he played in the final five games in place of injured tackle Marcus McNeill. In 2012, Gaither only managed to play in four games before being placed on injured reserve in November.
Quarterback Philip Rivers was sacked 49 times and had 22 turnovers playing behind San Diego’s offensive line last season.
