Team USA Tops Canada: Advances at WBC

Barry Gossage/WBCI/MLB Photos via Getty Images(PHOENIX) -- Adam Jones doubled in the go-ahead run in the eighth-inning, and Eric Hosmer hit a three-run double in the ninth leading the U.S. past Canada 9-4 Sunday, in Group D play of the World Baseball Classic.

The win advances the Americans to the second round.

"It's Game 7," Jones said to the MLB Network. "We don't need to get pumped up for Game 7...It is what it is...We came out today and so did team Canada. They came out swinging the bats and we were fortunate enough to get bigger hits."

Canada's Michael Saunders hit a two-run homer off U.S. starter Derek Holland. Saunders finished the tournament going 8-for-11 with seven RBIs. He was named Group D MVP.
