The confirmation comes from Elton himself, who tells Extra he and Madge buried the hatchet during a chance encounter, apparently last year.  Says Elton, “We were in a restaurant in France in the summertime.  We just happened to be in the same restaurant.  She came in, I sent over a note. She was very gracious. I apologized profusely because what I said should never have appeared in public. She was very gracious, she accepted our apology, and then we bought her dinner, and that’s over and done with.”

The British tabloid The Sun actually reported on the encounter last September, claiming that Elton and Madonna bumped into one another at La Petite Maison in Nice and enjoyed a cordial conversation.  However, this is the first time Sir Elton has confirmed it.

Elton hasn’t been shy about criticizing Madonna, beginning at least as far back as 2002, when he called her song “Die Another Day” “the worst Bond tune of all time.”  He’s since accused her of everything from lip-synching her performances, to looking “like a f*cking fairground stripper.”

“I was very relieved,” Elton says of Madonna accepting his apology, “because she had every right to say ‘I don’t want to talk…’ I said, listen — you have an option of not talking to me again and I completely understand it, and she said ‘No, no. I accept your apology. Let’s move on.'”
