HBO Renews “Game of Thrones” for Fourth Season

HBO(NEW YORK) — No surprise here: HBO wants more of Game of Thrones. The cable network announced on Tuesday that it has renewed the fantasy drama for a fourth season, which will likely air in 2014.
Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels, kicked off its third season Sunday night. The season premiere drew 4.4 million viewers for its initial airing and 6.7 million total for the night, including encore showings.
Who knows how many others have watched the episode illegally since then. According to the TorrentFreak website, a single torrent of the episode has been shared online by more than 160,000 people — a record. The previous mark was held by the third-season premiere of the now-defunct NBC series Heroes in 2008.
TorrentFreak estimates that Game of Thrones’ third-season premiere has been illegally downloaded more than a million times.
