(NEW YORK) — Yahoo and Apple may be forging ahead with a deeper partnership.
Citing people briefed on the matter, The Wall Street Journal reports the two companies “have been discussing how more of Yahoo’s services can play a prominent role on Apple’s iPhone and iPad devices.”
As the newspaper notes, apps preloaded on iPhones already pull data from Yahoo, as does Siri, Apple’s voice-activated “virtual assistant.” But the companies are exploring ways in which more content from Yahoo News and its other web properties can be incorporated, one of the sources tells the Journal.
Marissa Mayer, who was named Yahoo’s CEO last year, wants to boost her firm’s visibility on mobile. Apple, meanwhile, is working on reducing its reliance on Google — a fierce competitor.
