Bruins Outlast Rangers in Overtime
Published at(BOSTON) — The overtime magic continued for the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.
Brad Marchand scored a goal with 4:20 left in the extra period to give the Bruins a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.
“It’s always frustrating” not to score, Marchand said, “but there’s so many other areas of the game. It’s always nice to get the first one and you hope you just keep going.”
Marchand’s goal gave the Bruins their third straight overtime win, while the Rangers have lost three-straight overtime games.
The game was deadlocked throughout the majority of regulation, but shots proved to be the difference in overtime as Boston outshot New York 16-5.
“I thought it was pretty even going into the overtime,” Rangers coach John Tortorella said. “But we got spanked in the overtime.”
Game 2 of their best-of-seven series is Sunday night in Boston.
