(NEW YORK) — San Diego Chargers linebacker Melvin Ingram’s 2013 season is over before it even began.
Ingram tore his left ACL during the Chargers’ organized team activities on Tuesday morning and will miss the entire 2013 season, the team announced in a statement.
The Chargers selected Ingram in the first round of the 2012 draft. In his rookie season Ingram had 41 tackles, one forced fumble, and one sack.
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the team is bringing in free agent Dwight Freeney for a visit on Wednesday. Freeney spent 15 seasons with new team general manager Tom Telesco and the Indianapolis Colts.
The team was expecting Ingram to take the next step in his sophomore season and provide stability and strength to a young linebacking corps.
