DOMINIQUE FAGET/AFP/Getty Images(MADRID) -- Rafael Nadal defeated Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets on Sunday, 6-2, 6-4 to capture the Madrid Open championship.

It’s Nadal’s fifth title since returning from tendinitis in his left knee that kept him out of action for seven months.

On the road to his 55th career championship, Nadal defeated Benoit Paire, Mikhail Youzhny, David Ferrer, Pablo Andujar and Wawrinka. He won 10 sets while dropping just one.

The 11-time Grand Slam champion is now an undefeated 9-0 lifetime against Wawrinka.
