Jeter had been rehabbing at the team’s minor league complex in Tampa, but returned to the Bronx Saturday to see his teammates and get some work done.

Some of that work included taking part in batting practice, but the next step for Jeter will be running on the ankle.  He will be a lot closer to returning once he can run without pain.

“I feel good,” he said. “Everything’s moving in the right direction.”

The 38-year-old Jeter hasn’t played this season after breaking his ankle in the playoffs last fall and needing surgery. He sustained another fracture in the ankle while rehabbing in April.

Third baseman Alex Rodriguez faced live pitching on Saturday while rehabbing from hip surgery.  Yankees manager Joe Girardi says Rodriguez walked twice and had a base hit in five simulated at-bats.
