Jupiterimages/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Temperatures are soaring in the Southwest, where a large ridge of high pressure is building, bringing record-breaking heat to the region for the new few days.

On Friday, the temperature in Phoenix is forecast to swell up to 119 degrees, while California’s Death Valley could see a high of 127.  Triple digit temperatures are also expected in Tucson, Ariz., and Las Vegas, where the highs can reach up to 113 degrees and 116 degrees, respectively.

The heat wave in the southwest is expected to continue through the weekend and into early next week.  Excessive heat watches and warnings are in effect Friday through Monday in four states, including parts of Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah.

Cooling stations are being set up in Las Vegas and other cities to help people cool off.
