Leon Halip/Getty Images(ALLEN PARK, Mich.) — The Detroit Lions released running back Jahvid Best on Wednesday, after he missed the entire 2012 season due to post-concussion issues.

“I want to thank the Detroit Lions organization for drafting me and giving me an opportunity to fulfill my dream and play in the National Football League,” Best said in a statement. “My time as a member of the Lions was a very special time in my life. My teammates, the members of the organization, the Lions fans and the people of Detroit will hold a special place in my heart. I’ll always be a Lion.”

The Lions drafted Best out of California with the 30th overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft. In 22 games with Detroit, the 24-year-old rushed for 945 yards and six touchdowns on 255 carries while catching 85 passes for 774 yards and three TD’s.

He last appeared on the gridiron in Week 6 of the 2011 season.
