( IDAHO FALLS , ID ) – The Better Business Bureau is warning locals about an online scam that’s been popping up in recent weeks. In the wake of shocking revelations about government surveillance programs, scammers are using pop-ups claiming to be from the FBI that accuse online surfers of criminal activity. Experts say that it’s a form of hostage ware, since the scammers ask victims to pay a fine to avoid going to jail. Anyone who may be a victim is urged to turn off their computer, bring it to a technician, and contact the Better Business Bureau.
