Kenyon Martin Returning to Knicks
Published at(NEW YORK) — Kenyon Martin is returning to the New York Knicks as he agreed to a new contract with the team on Wednesday.
Financial details were not released, but it is expected for be for the veteran’s minimum salary because of salary cap constraints.
While he is no longer the player he once was, Martin was a welcomed addition to the Knicks last season.
The 35-year old Martin played in 18 games during the regular season for the Knicks last season, including 11 starts. He averaged 7.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He provided strong defense and toughness for the team.
“Kenyon did a fantastic job for us once he signed in February,” Knicks’ general manager Glen Grunwald said in a statement. “He strengthened our frontline going into an important stretch of the season with some very impressive performances. We are happy to have him back.”
Last season, Martin helped the Knicks have one of the best defenses in the NBA. During the 2012-2013 season, the Knicks ranked seventh in the NBA with 95.7 points per game allowed.
