Volunteers Tidy Up Tribute Wall Outside Mandela’s Hospital
Published at(PRETORIA, South Africa) — Former South African President Nelson Mandela is spending his 26th day in the hospital battling a lung infection.
The 94-year-old civil rights leader remains in critical but stable condition.
On Wednesday morning, a small group of volunteers from the Nelson Mandela Center of Remembrance came to the Pretoria hospital where Mandela is fighting for his life and began tidying up a tribute wall that has taken shape along the railings outside.
The volunteers came to straighten up some of the tributes, clearing away dead flowers and taking a few of the older items away to present them to the Mandela family.
Well-wishers have been flocking to the Mediclinic Heart Hospital since Mandela was admitted on June 8, leaving flowers, posters and hand-written notes along the fence.
