Lindsay Lohan Reveals Her “Next Chapter” to Oprah Winfrey

George Burns/Harpo Studios, Inc.(NEW YORK) — Oprah Winfrey’s OWN on Sunday night aired her much-hyped sit-down with recently-rehabbed Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan.
During the Oprah’s Next Chapter installment — which was filmed a couple of weeks ago, just days after Lohan left rehab for the sixth time — Winfrey examined Lohan’s fall from grace as a one-time Hollywood “It” Girl, her many scrapes with the law, and her ongoing struggles with addiction.
The question on many people’s minds, Winfrey asked, is what makes Lohan’s sixth time in rehab the charm? Lohan admitted her first stints in rehab “tended to be a punishment.”
Winfrey wondered if the latest stint was “court-ordered, how can it have any effect?”
“In the past I don’t think I fully surrendered to the fact that I just need to shut up and listen,” Lohan said.
She explained that she once found herself 18 years old, living in Hollywood with money to burn, and that her first DUI, back in 2007, wasn’t the wake-up call most would think it would have been.
“It was scary at first,” Lohan recalled, “but it didn’t really hit me…because I’m an addict.”
With regard to substances, Lohan said alcohol was her drug of choice, though she has taken cocaine more than she once publicly claimed.
“I’ve done it like 10 or 15 times…because it allowed me to drink more,” she said.
Lohan said although her tumultuous family life helped her get addicted to chaos, she has nobody to blame but herself for her troubles — and said she resents the fact she led people to refer to her as “troubled” actress.
“I hate that. I hate that label and that title…It’s not what I ever aspired to be,” she said.
Lohan’s life became so crazy at one point that, she said, she welcomed a stint in jail in 2010.
“I think it was just to find some peace,” she recalled.
The interview closed with Winfrey counseling Lohan not to take a planned trip to Europe, figuring it could derail her treatment.
“I’m a food addict,” Winfrey said, explaining she wouldn’t go to the “potato chip factory” for the same reasons she thought Lohan should avoid Europe, where alcohol is part of the culture. Eventually, the show explained, Lohan agreed.
On Sunday night, Winfrey tweeted Lohan about the decision, saying “great big step canceling that trip,” to which Lohan responded with the Alcoholics Anonymous slogan, “One day at a time,” and added, “Thank you so much, Oprah Xo.”
