A rep for the 27-year-old actress tells ABC News Radio that Lohan was never confirmed to be there.

The Belfast Telegraph initially reported that Lohan was scheduled to appear at the festival to promote the erotic thriller, but never showed up.  The paper also reported that at a news conference, director Paul Schrader said that he was a “free man,” adding, in reference to Lohan, “For the last 16 months I’ve been hostage, by own choosing, to a very talented but unpredictable actress.”

A source tells ABC News that Lohan “always wanted to come [to the festival], but for a reasons out of her control it did not work out.”  Added the source, “She is very happy the film is showing and sends her best to the entire cast and execs.”

Lohan tweeted about the movie and the event Thursday, writing, “2 things close to my heart! @TheCanyonsFilm & @venicefilmfest.”
