At least 23 people were injured. No Indian citizens were hurt in the attack, officials say.

The explosion, near a mosque, was an attempt to attack the Indian consulate, according to Deputy police chief of Nangarhar province Masum Khan Hashimi.

Hashimi said two attackers exited a car covered with explosives. The first two bombers were immediately shot by police, then the third attacker set off his explosives.

It is not clear who was responsible for the attack, according to the BBC.

Jalalabad has been the target of multiple attacks, including a bomb blast at the Jalalabad airport in February 2012 that killed 9 people.
