(TORONTO) -- Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion will have left wrist surgery and miss the rest of the season.
The wrist has been bothering Encarnacion most of the season but started hurting more in the past two weeks. He missed a few games last week before returning over the weekend, but his condition didn't improve so he was shut down.
Encarnacion will undergo a procedure later this week that will repair damaged cartilage. The rehab process is expected to take two months and Encarnacion should make a full recovery and be ready for spring training.
The 30-year-old Encarnacion hit .277 with 36 home runs, 104 RBIs and a .370 on-base percentage this season.
