On Tuesday night, Rivera notched his 40th save of the season, the ninth time he’s accomplished that feat.

Rivera, baseball’s all-time saves leader, has made it well known that this will be his 19th and final season.

“I don’t see any reason why he couldn’t do it next year,” Girardi said. “I don’t. He’s made it pretty clear he doesn’t want to [return], but I always say, you know, January rolls around and sometimes you have a different feel about what you want to do.”

Rivera has 648 career saves with a 2.21 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.

In the postseason, Rivera has made 96 appearances and has 42 saves with a 0.70 ERA and a 0.76 WHIP.
