Following the infield single, Liriano gave up a game-tying two-run homer to Welington Castillo, and another hit before Bryan Morris came in to retire the side.

The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the eighth when Justin Morneau singled in Andrew McCutchen, who was on base after being hit by a pitch to give Pittsburgh a 3-2 lead.

Mark Melancon notched his 16th save in 18 chances and retired the side in order in the top half of the ninth.

Pittsburgh (87-62) remains tied with the Cardinals (87-62) for the N.L. Central lead after St. Louis beat Seattle 12-2 on Sunday.  Both teams also hold the top spot in the Wild Card race.
