“I’m just trying to do the best that I can.” Williams said in an on-court interview after the match. “I’m so happy to have everyone’s support out here. I’m so happy to have an opportunity to be in the semifinals. It really feels great.”
The match took only 52 minutes with Williams winning 53 of 71 points as she attempts to win her 17th grand slam title.
“She’s the best player in the sport,” Suarez Navarro said. “When you look at the draw, you don’t want to see Serena there.”
Williams’ win was the first “double bagel” in a quarterfinal at Flushing Meadows since 1989. She will square off with fifth-seeded Li Na in Friday’s semifinal.
